New Jersey's NAVY TAILGATING PAGES |
||||||||||||||
|
When? After
every Navy Home Game. You can come early... before the game to help
set-up, you can help out after half-time to get things heated, you can
help serve our hungry mids immediately after the game, or you can stick
around after to help with the clean-up. You need not commit to the
entire process, we'd love to have your help at any time. How?
We have our own club trailer, tables, canopy's, chafing dishes and the
biggest grill you've ever seen. We have ten assigned parking spaces.
Parents holding season tickets for Navy football also have parking passes
for stadium parking. The first ten on the scene park in the allotted
spots outside gate D. Everyone arriving afterwards parks in nearby
stadium parking and begins the tailgate set-up process.
Those without season tickets must park offsite and shuttle in.
Please see the "tailgate tips" below to learn how you can help make our mids feel loved.
Make sure you are filling out the correct form(s) for the tailgater(s) that you plan to attend. Keep checking back to this page or the TAILGATE NEWS page see what's new. Remember: check the Tailgate Schedule for Game Times and Locations. Click here for tailgating tips
2) You don't need
to be from NJ to help prepare food for our midshipmen. If you are
coming in from another State, and would like to join us at the Tailgater,
we'd love to have you. Just write a note to us in the "comments"
section so we know to look for you and give you a Jersey Welcome. |

Rules of the USNA PC of NJ Tailgate
![]() |
| The food at the NJ Tailgater is for Midshipmen. Please plan to bring food and
drinks for your family and friends. We sometimes serve as many as 300 midshipmen
at our tailgater. The line begins to grow within minutes of hearing them
sing Navy Blue and Gold.
There is no drinking of alcoholic beverages while serving food to Midshipmen or in the presence of Midshipmen. Food Handling Safety Measure MUST BE ADHERED TO AT ALL TIMES. Servers must wash hands prior to handling food or utensils. All mids, no matter where the THINK they are from... are from NJ. So, that sweet, freckle-faced kid with the Midwestern accent, he's from NJ, he/she just doesn't know it yet. Heap lots of food on his/her plate. At first they are shy and need to be prompted to get in line. They can't quite believe that we're out there serving up home cooked food for all midshipman. If you bring food, plan to provide the equipment necessary to heat and/or serve it. ICE - we always need ICE (unless it's snowing). BEHAVE - If you are working at the NJ Tailgate, please remember, you are an ambassador of our State and USNA. We want every midshipmen's impression of NJ to be a positive one. Our club supports the administration of USNA and our words and actions must be indicative of that support. PARKING is outside Gate D on the Navy side of the stadium. Your vehicle may occupy only one parking space. We generally have someone in the lot by 9AM on game day, but PLEASE NOTE: Game time is not noon this year. The home games start at 1:30PM. BAKING - home baked cookies, brownies, muffins, cupcakes. If your son or daughter loves it, please bake it and bring it along. Bring enough for a couple dozen midshipman. Please wrap in individual servings so the mids can take it back to the yard if they are rushed to return. HOME COOKED FOOD - make your best ziti, chili, lasagna, soup, cornbread, sausage & peppers, pierogies, whatever, they love home cooked, ethnic food. It is essential that you use the proper aluminum steam-tray-style pans. They are available at party stores and COSTCO/Sam's Club type stores. Don't use the 13 X 9 aluminum trays available at grocery stores. They do not fit the steaming trays. There are half-size steam tray pans. These are acceptable. We suggest that you get up early, heat your dish, wrap it in foil, then several layers of newspaper and put it in a cardboard box, layered with heavy towels. The food stays warm and is much easier to reheat in the chafing dishes. SODA/SNACKS - cases of soda, ice tea, flavored water, Gatorade, etc. may be purchased at those large wholesale food clubs. We find the midshipmen prefer non-carbonated beverages during the hot weather. If you have a large cooler, please fill it with ice and bring it along. We need lots of ice storage containers to keep drinks cold. SANDWICHES/FRIED CHICKEN - We are seeking corporate and family monetary ($) donations to purchase sub-style sandwiches and fried chicken for some of our tailgaters. If you can help with this, either through donations yourself or perhaps approaching local businesses for donations, please contact the Butlers and let them know what you can do. Any donations for tailgating must be made payable to: USNA PC of NJ. The donation you solicit or your personal donation is tax deductible. Please note on the check that the funds are for tailgating purposes. PAPER PRODUCTS - this is a rather costly component of our tailgating operation. In the past we've been fortunate to have parents donate all of our paper products. Janet and Les Korsos are our Paper/Plastic Products Coordinator. Please e-mail them direct if you can donate products or cash for these supplies. We need plastic cutlery, napkins, paper dishes, soup bowls and hot beverage cups. CASH - If you are unable to attend you might consider sending the club a cash donation. As stated previously, the donation is tax deductible and any checks must be made payable to USNA PC of NJ. Indicate "tailgate" in the memo field so we know that it should be applied to a tailgating event. Click here to donate cash: PROPS - The club owns tables, grills, propane stoves, warming trays, sterno, matches etc. If you are bringing a dish that requires special preparation, please check with the Korsos beforehand to make sure it is needed for the event you are attending. We can always use USNA decorations. Flags, American, Navy or USNA are always welcome.
